| History
of Fearnes Coaches BUS SERVICES IN WAGGA WAGGA.
In 1916,
William James Fearne and William Borlase commenced business in Wagga Wagga as general
carriers and charter bus operators. Mr Borlase resigned as a partner in the early twenties
and William Fearne then carried on the business. In 1929, the first route and timetable
service was commenced between Turvey Park and Docker Street and was extended later to
include North Wagga.
In 1937, Mr Clive Fearne purchased
the business from his father and remained as managing director until his death in 1989. Mr
Garry Fearne then took over the reigns of running the business until his death in 1996.
Since then, Garry's wife Audrey has been successfully carrying on the family tradition.
Over the years, Fearnes bus routes
have been extended to all sections of the city. Coach tours and charter services have been
extended to all parts of Australia. A daily express service between Wagga Wagga and Sydney
was introduced in 1988. This was enhanced with the introduction of the
"Grasshopper" service to Sydney or Canberra from Junee, Cootamundra, Young &
Harden in 1997.
The fleet has increased from one bus
in 1916, to a fleet of seventy-five buses and coaches today.
