Multi Year cards

All eligible SSTS School Bus pass travelers will receive a free plastic swipe card at the start of the 2008 school year. This will replace all current 2007 School bus passes. At the end of 2008 the same pass will carry over to 2009, no need to replace cards each year. When change of student details occurs, a new application form is required with the updated information. This information is updated in the computer system and the existing card can still be used.

If the card is Lost, Stolen or Damaged a replacement fee of $15 will be charged.

*DO NOT punch holes in the card as this damages the microchip and it will cost $15 to replace the card

The cards do not store any personal information. They only contain a number, which allows the ticket machines to identify the student when the card is presented to a card reader on the Bus.

The New Plastic Swipe Card replaces the current bus passes used for school free travel. The e-purse facility allows student bus passes to be loaded with credit that can be used to pay for travel other than normal school to home and return trips. They can also be used on Town Services and as student ID during non-school periods.

Replaces Term pass & Travel pass

Plastic Swipe cards are also available to be used for travel or term passes.

The initial issue of the card involves a refundable deposit for the card. The card will be loaded with the credit as required and can be used on any School or Town service. The balance of the card will be printed onto the ticket when the amount falls below $10. The card can be recharged either on the bus or at the Fearnes depot.

When the card is no longer required, it can be returned to Fearnes and the deposit refunded.

Ease of use, 10cm read distance

The Card uses a proximity reader that can read from 10cm, through almost all materials except metal. Students don’t need to get their pass out of their wallet or bag. They can just swipe their wallet or bag past the reader. The unit will beep when card is within read range.

Driver access to student travel information

When a card is swiped the student travel information appears on the screen. If a student swipes the card on the wrong bus, the driver is notified and can look up the student in the computer to get correct travel details.

Improved services due to more information

With the ability to record all students, when and where they are boarding and traveling habits, we will be able to provide better services to all students.
